Frequently asked questions

Is StemCost free to use?

Yes. There is no account, trial, paywall or usage limit. The pages are static files and the calculator runs in your browser.

Do I need an account or an email address?

No. Nothing is submitted anywhere. You can use the calculator, save recipes and export a CSV without identifying yourself.

Where are my saved recipes stored?

In your browser’s local storage on this device. They are not uploaded and cannot be seen by anyone else. Clearing site data or using a different browser will hide them, so export a CSV if a recipe matters.

Does waste apply to hard goods and labour?

No. Waste is charged on flower cost only, because that is the part of the recipe that perishes and gets trimmed. Hard goods, labour and delivery are added afterwards and are never multiplied by the waste percentage.

How is the suggested retail price calculated?

Total cost divided by one minus the target margin. At a 60% target margin the divisor is 0.4, so a total cost of 40 becomes a suggested retail of 100 before commission and rounding.

What is commission-adjusted retail?

The price to quote when a wire service or marketplace takes a percentage of the retail price. It divides total cost by both one minus the margin and one minus the commission, so the payout after commission still leaves the margin you asked for.

Why is the margin achieved slightly different from the target?

Retail prices are rounded up to the next cent. Rounding can only raise the price, so the achieved margin is occasionally a fraction above the target and never below it.

What belongs in hard goods?

Anything non-perishable that leaves with the arrangement: vase, foam, ribbon, wrap, card, pins and a care tag. Enter one combined figure for the piece you are costing.

Can I print a price sheet or export my recipes?

Yes. The printable costing sheet includes every flower line, the cost build-up, the suggested retail and the margin achieved. The CSV export writes the current recipe plus every saved recipe, one row each.

Does the site use cookies, ads or analytics?

No. There are no cookies, no advertising scripts, no analytics and no third-party requests. The only storage used is your browser’s local storage for saved recipes.

Is this financial, tax or legal advice?

No. StemCost performs arithmetic on the numbers you enter. It does not know your market, your overheads or your obligations, and it makes no recommendation about the margin you should choose.
