Why it exists
Flower pricing is usually discussed as a matter of instinct or competition. Both are useful, but neither tells you what a specific arrangement cost to make. A recipe sheet does, and the arithmetic behind one is short enough to fit on a page. StemCost is that page, with a calculator attached.
How it is built
The site is a set of static pages. The calculator is a small JavaScript module that runs in your browser, using the same costing functions that the project's unit tests exercise. There is no application server, no database and no account system. When you save a recipe it goes into your browser's local storage on that device; when you export a CSV it is assembled locally and downloaded.
Because the pages are static, they load without an API call. Because there is no analytics or advertising script, there is nothing else to load. The full formulas are published in How it works, and the source is available on request through the contact page.
What it does not do
- It does not know what flowers cost, what labour is worth, or what margin is right for your business.
- It does not include tax, card fees, rent, insurance or other overheads unless you fold them into a cost line yourself.
- It does not sync between devices or back up your recipes. Export a CSV for anything you want to keep.
- It does not give accounting, tax or legal advice.
The example recipe
The calculator opens with an example so the shape of the output is visible immediately. Every price in it is a placeholder, labelled as such, and none of it is a claim about market rates. Replace the lines with your own costs; the example is editable and disposable.
Who maintains it
StemCost is an independent project by Pratham Jaiswal, who also maintains AccessProof, an accessibility audit service. The same care for keyboard access, readable contrast and plain language is applied here. If you find a page that does not meet that bar, the contact page is the right place to say so.
